Brentwood Basketball Looking To Get Back On Winning Track

Eagles are primed to improve on last year's 9-14 season. The season opener is set for Tuesday at home against Construction Careers Academy.

Coming off a 9-14 season last year, and with the two best players from that team now playing in college, some might think the boys basketball team is in for a rebuilding year this season.

Don’t count head coach Brad Kern among those that think that though. Kern said he is very excited about the Eagles prospects for the coming season.

“We go about nine deep,” Kern said. “I think we’re deeper than we were last year. We can play more up-tempo than we did in the past, and I think we’ll be more exciting.”

Leading the Eagles on the court this year will be its three senior captains Danny Lynch, Diontez Edwards and Jesse Sneed.

All three are expected to start, while Kern also expects to get big contributions from juniors Josh McGehee, Nick Featherston and Rekardo Owens, and sophomores Will Erby, Roland Floyd and Karvon Owens.

Brentwood also had three talented new players transfer into the district this offseason.

Sophomore forward Marc Powells transferred in from De Smet, while twin swingmen Xavier and Justice Bratcher came to Brentwood from Hazelwood East in Spanish Lake.

“We’re still trying to figure out which rotations work best, and who plays best together,” Kern said. “But I really like our depth. I feel like we can really pressure people how I want to, because I feel like now we have the depth to do it.”

The Eagles will open the season at 7 p.m. on Tuesday when they host Construction Careers Academy.
