Brentwood got a running start in the first round of district football, beating Principia for the second time in two weeks.
After thumping the Panthers 42-0 on Oct. 12 in game eight of the season, the Eagles came back with a 54-16 Districts win. The win extends Brentwood’s overall record to 9-1.
Brentwood coach Keith Herring said they knew what Principia did the last game, but were ready for some variations.
“They started off running the ball to the weak side,” he said. “We weren’t really ready for that. We had to make adjustments.”
It was a Brentwood balanced attack, with junior Jake Zivic accounting for three touchdowns, sophomore Austin Koster, two; sophomore DaRon Starks, one; and freshman Jacob Clay, one.
Senior, Rekardo Owens led in rushing with 113 yards in 16 carries. Zivic followed with 112 yards in 13 carries, with Starks right behind with 100 yards in eight carries.
Senior quarterback Nick Featherston hit two for five passes for 25 yards.
On defense, Zivic, senior David Rivera and junior Roland Floyd all had three solo tackles and three assists.
The Eagles next play Carnahan on Wednesday at home in the second round of district playoffs.
