Brentwood Defense Stuffs Grandview

Friday night's win guarantees a playoff spot for the Brentwood Eagles.

A strong defensive performance from Brentwood shut out district foe Grandview on Friday night, as the home Eagles won 35-0.

The win guarantees Brentwood (5-3) a spot in the state playoffs. Grandview's loss (1-7) knocked them out.

After an early rush for a score from Brentwood senior Tyler Jones, Grandview responded by promptly marching down the field.

Brentwood stopped Grandview on a 4th-and-5 play, but Brentwood was flagged for roughing the passer.

Brentwood senior Danny Lynch spoiled the extended drive when he snagged an interception inside Brentwood's 20-yard line and returned it for a score, giving Brentwood a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

Grandview never challenged Brentwood again, as the Eagles' defense swarmed the field.

Brentwood junior running back Rekardo Owens and junior quarterback Jordan Groth both pitched in for rushing scores. Groth also threw a touchdown score to junior wide receiver Nick Featherston, who caught the ball over his shoulders in the corner of the end zone.

Brentwood will play its second district game on Saturday at Principia. Both teams are guaranteed spots in the state playoffs. The loser of the game will play at MRH on Nov. 2.
