Brentwood-Fontbonne Teaching Partnership Recognized Nationally

The Association of Independent Liberal Arts Colleges for Teacher Education honors one program annually. This year, it's the partnership that includes the Special School District.

A teacher education partnership between Fontbonne University, the and the has been recognized nationally for moral and ethical excellence.

The Association of Independent Liberal Arts Colleges for Teacher Education recognizes one liberal arts university program annually and this year, it cited the partnership between the three local programs for its 2011 Models of Excellence Award for their work in preparing new teachers.

"Fontbonne pre-service teachers are able to see real schools in action as they work in classrooms, side by side with the master teacher," Julie Sperry, principal of , said in a statement from the Brentwood district. "Students at Brentwood schools are tutored and mentored by pre-service teachers. It is truly a win/win collaboration."

The release was issued by Brentwood superintendent Charles Penberthy. 

The program began in 1995 and expanded to include the Special School District in 2007. Representatives will be honored at the organization's conference in Chicago in February.
