Brentwood Hoops: Boys Look to Snap Three-Game Losing Streak

Meanwhile, the girls team will try to improve on their 2-5 record after a break in play for the holidays.

's basketball programs have hit a rough patch recently. The Eagle boys team is in the middle of a three-game losing streak, after consecutive defeats to Ladue, SLUH and Trinity Catholic during the final days of December.

Brentwood’s last win came in the third-place game at the Valley Park Tournament on Dec. 2.

But things aren’t likely to stay that way for the Eagles, who have a series of highly winnable games coming up in January, including a new year’s opener on Thursday night at Principia. That will be followed by Brentwood’s South Central Athletic Association conference opener on Friday against Bayless.

Both games will happen on the road and are scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m. Brentwood’s first home game of 2012 is set for Jan. 12, when the Eagles host Tower Grove Christian High at 6:30 p.m.

Despite the losses, sophomore Karvon Owens has continued his sensational play for Brentwood. He leads the team in several statistical categories, including scoring (15 points/game), assists (5.4/game) and steals (3.3/game).

Brentwood girls hoops

Junior Meredith McGrath is the Brentwood girls’ leading scorer at 8.4 points per game. She also is ranked as the ninth-best rebounder in the St. Louis area, with an 11.3 rebounds-per-game average.

If those numbers look familiar, it’s because they’ve been exactly the same for nearly a month. That's because the Brentwood girls basketball team hasn’t played a game since its 42-22 win Dec. 12 over Carnahan High (St. Louis).

The Brentwood team was one of the few in the area that didn’t play in any holiday basketball event. But the Eagles are hopeful that all the extra practice time will have them ready to improve on their 2-5 record.

Game action for the Eagles will begin in 2012 on Friday night, when the Brentwood girls will join the boys for a game at Bayless. Tip-off for the girls that night is 5:30.

Brentwood’s first home game of the new year is set for Jan. 13, when the Eagles will host Crossroads College Prep.
