Brentwood Teacher Honored by Emerson

Kelly Javier has received the 2011 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award. Educators from both public and private schools, colleges and universities have been chosen by their peers or administrators to receive this honor for their dedication to educational excellence. Javier will be honored on November 13 at the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Awards Program.

Javier's ability to connect with students, addressing each learner's talents and needs, is outstanding. Her dynamic lessons often involve collaborative group settings, real-life situations, and a discovery-investigative approach.

Her lessons are infused with technology such as TI-nSpire calculators, a smart tech document camera, smart math tools, the Smartboard, and our Senteos system.

Under Javier's guidance, the students in her classes over the last few years have achieved an average ACT score of 32, and all her students have scored in the advanced or proficient range on the end-of-course exam from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Javier also serves as department chair, softball coach, and district NEA president. As a sponsor of student government, she has brought awareness to Brentwood students of serving others in need. She has helped organize events to raise money for those in need in the local community and around the world.

A consummate professional, Javier serves as district curriculum supervisor for mathematics and led the district charge in adopting CME, a new math program. During the summer prior to the implementation of the new program, she traveled to Boston for a five-day training program. She continually seeks out professional development opportunities to stay apprised of best practices and to acquire professional knowledge.

In every respect, Kelly Javier is a master teacher, devoted colleague, and dedicated professional.
