Dr. Ed Johnson Named New Brentwood Principal

Johnson taught at Ladue schools for nine years and has been Brentwood's assistant principal for eight.

Brentwood High School's Dr. Johnson got a promotion.

The Brentwood School District Board of Education unanimously approved the recommendation of Dr. Edward Johnson as the next principal of Brentwood High School at its meeting Tuesday. 

Dr. Don Rugraff, who served as principal for the past five years, is retiring effective the end of June.

Johnson served as assistant principal for Brentwood High School and Brentwood Middle School during the 2005-2006 school year before becoming the assistant principal and athletic director for the high school in 2006.

Superintendent of Schools David Faulkner said Johnson is the right choice for the job, in a press release from the district on Wednesday.

“He has worked in the district for eight years and understands and values our mission to serve every student,” Faulkner said.

Johnson earned his B.S. in Business Administration and Management from Missouri Baptist University before turning to education as his career. He taught PE and coached several sports for nine years at Ladue Horton Watkins High School prior to coming to Brentwood in 2005. He earned a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Lindenwood University and a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Maryville University.

Faulkner said parents and staff on the interview committee spoke highly of Johnson’s ability to build encouraging relationships with students.

Johnson will assume his new role on July 1.
