Mark Twain Celebrates Becoming a National School of Character
Students, teachers and parents joined in on the fun-filled assembly.
On Thursday, students, teachers and parents of Mark Twain Elementary school celebrated not only the last day of school, but being recognized as a .
Children stood up and told principal, Karen Smith, what that concept meant to them, using words like responsibility and respect to describe their school. New school counselor Cheryl Miller said, "They've gone through a lot of hard work in character development, and now they have a reputation out there. It's really wonderful--the kids are so nice and welcoming."
Students and teachers alike sang what could be considered the school anthem, "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge, then skipped outdoors or to the music room for lunch and playtime before the start of summer.

Mark Twain was given the award through the Character Education Partnership, a nonprofit dedicated to character education. The elementary school has already been awarded twice as a Missouri School of Character.
