Miller comes from a much larger school in the Wentzville School District. There were 768 students in the building (Green Tree Elementary), in comparison to the fewer than 200 at Mark Twain.

“It’s much different,” she said. “I hope to spend much more time with the students.” Her previous job required a lot of paperwork, so she is looking forward to seeing and getting to know the kids at Mark Twain.

She realizes what a family-oriented school and community she’s in, and is getting to know the families as her first priority. She actually started coming to the school in the spring to get acclimated.

She said she'll start the year by helping crying kids and parents, but will dive into the guidance curriculum after that. That includes things like teaching teamwork, character education and social issues. Knowing that , she said she’ll probably learn a few things as well.
