Q: How does it feel to be named a Scholar Athlete by the Post-Dispatch?

It's pretty special to be the one scholar athlete picked from my school, especially because all the teachers had to vote on it. It's pretty cool to look through the profiles of all the other scholar athletes and see what kind of company my names being thrown in with.

Q: What characteristics make you successful as both an athlete and a student?

Work ethic is the key in the classroom and on the field. A good work ethic has helped me do everything I've wanted to and more in school and in baseball. Always thinking positive has really helped me along the way too.

Q: What drives you to be successful in athletics and academics?

My grandpa was at every one of my baseball games from the time I was in kindergarten to the time he passed away in 2005. Whenever I step on a baseball field, I always feel like I'm playing for him. As far as in school, what drives me is simply thinking about the life I want to have when I'm older and all of the big goals that I have.

Q: What's next for you?

I'll be attending the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville next year and I'm going in as a political science major. I hope to eventually attend law school and get my juris doctorate and become a courtroom attorney. I've also thought about maybe trying to break into the sports management business a bunch of years down the road.
