MRH Will Respond to Westboro Baptist Church Picket

Westboro Baptist is planning a protest of Maplewood Richmond Heights' 'The Laramie Project' on Saturday.

The Westboro Baptist Church, known for harshly protesting against homosexuality, is coming to Maplewood Richmond Heights on Saturday, October 20, and MRH will have a response.

The Maplewood Richmond Heights threatre department is putting on The Laramie Project, a play about tolerance towards homosexuals, and Westboro Baptist has stated they will picket the Saturday matinee.

MRH plans a peaceful rally to counter the Westboro protest, and has invited the community to attend the school’s response to Westboro Baptist’s picket.

“Our interest is to have a peaceful response that supports our students participating in the The Laramie Project as well as embrace all diversity within our community,” the MRH organizers say.

The MRH rally will begin at the athletic field bleachers at 12:30 on Saturday.

See the details of the rally at the MRH website.

The high school administrators and students have been very thoughtful in planning their response. Good for them!

Thank you, MRHSD, for having the courage to take an official stance against bigotry in any form. This is an institution setting a great example for all of its constituents.

I was just thinking, if you happen to see something.....like the sign in front of City Hall, or theRead More sign in Schnuck's parking lot....regarding something going on in Brentwood, now you can click on the "Post" board at the top of the page, and let people know what is happening in Brentwood. We have the new format so we can now post whatever we want. Just click and post. Anyone can do it too.

I doubt this discrepancy you think exists is because the editors have more of a connection toRead More Maplewood. I imagine it is because Maplewood officials and Chamber of Commerce members send press releases to the editors regarding upcoming events and news items. If you want your local community to have more of a presence in the Patch, I suggest you contact the proper officials in Brentwood and urge them to send such notices. Self-promotion for a community is a good thing, although in the case of Brentwood Days and other iconic Brentwood events, it was my understanding that the city didn't want it publicized and preferred it to be a smaller event.
