MRH Wins in Blowout Effort Over Fredericktown

Devils score four fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull away from fired up Fredericktown squad.

FREDERICKTOWN — The football team won its third straight game, and improved to 5-2 on the season, with a 48-12 win Friday night at Fredericktown High School.

The Blue Devils actually trailed 6-0 early in the first quarter, after a 49-yard touchdown run by the home team’s Jake Korokis.

But MRH quarterback Kahlid Hagens threw two long touchdown passes, a 55-yarder to Karon Thomas and a 46-yarder to Cortland Brooks, to give the Devils a 14-6 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Hagens got the ball rolling again with another touchdown pass (10-yards to Aaron Collins) to make the score 20-6 for the visitors.

But the key play in the game was a 35-yard punt return for a score by Kashon Hagens that, along with a two-point conversion pass he caught from Kahlid, gave the Devils a 28-6 advantage.

Overall, the Hagens combined for 475 total yards, five touchdowns, and three two-point conversions in Friday’s final tune-up for the district playoffs, which begin next Saturday for MRH, with a game at Roosevelt High School in St. Louis against Carnahan High of the Public High League.

The district playoffs in Missouri work as a statewide grouping of four-team, round-robin mini-tournaments, in which the top two teams advance to the state playoffs.

MRH won all three of its district games easily last year, and advanced all the way to the Missouri Class 2 state championship game, .

The other two schools in MRH’s district are Northwest Academy and Lift For Life Academy, both of St. Louis.

The Devils will play Northwest at home on Friday, October 21, at 7 p.m., then finish out the regular season against Lift For Life on Thursday, October 27, in a game that will be played at Crystal City High School.

OTHER MRH FOOTBALL NOTES:  , had his first 100-plus yard game since , with a 14-carry, 114-yard effort against Fredericktown on Friday.

Keely leads MRH in rushing this year with 594 yards, and he scored his team-leading 10th touchdown of the season, on a 22-yard run in the fourth quarter against Fredericktown.

Junior Wes Williams was the top performer on defense for MRH Friday night, posting nine tackles, a quarterback sack, and a 46-yard interception return.

For the season, the 6-foot-1, 195-pounder leads the Devils with 45 solo tackles and 68 total tackles overall.
