Rugraff Retiring on High Note: This Year's BHS Class Has Highest ACT in School History

Dr. Don Rugraff’s last day as Brentwood High School principal is the last day of June, but he plans to continue to work.

He said he loves the work and Brentwood High School, but because of the way the state public school retirement system is set up, he would lose money for the rest of his life if he stayed.

He said each of the five classes, during his time, have contributed something different. "They have their own legacy," he said.

“I’ve only had two graduating classes I’ve been with for four years, last year’s and this year’s. They’re both phenomenal classes,” he said. “Outstanding leadership. Kids are very bright, talented in many different ways.”

He said this year’s class will graduate holding the highest ACT composite score in the history of Brentwood High school, a 24.35.

“Their best years are yet to come. This is an outstanding class and they all bring their own gift to the table,” he said. “I don’t know of a better way of ending my career in public education than at Brentwood High School. It’s a wonderful job.”

Rugraff said helping the new principal, Dr. Ed Johnson, move into the principal office is one of the things he’ll be doing before he leaves.

He said he hopes there’s enough time between jobs to do some trout fishing, maybe a little hunting. He also said he’d like to take the opportunity to spend time with his son who is back from college.
