Two Brentwood School Board Terms Expire in 2013, Both Plan to Run Again

Chris Jones, the current president and Regina Gahr will run to maintain their seats.

The two Brentwood School Board members, Regina Gahr and Chris Jones, whose terms are expiring this year, are planning to run for another term.

Gahr has served five terms over 15 years so far. She had served as vice president of the board until April 2011, when Katrina Harper moved into the role.

"I actually really enjoy being on the board," Gahr said. "I feel like it is important for the seniors in Brentwood, the tax paying constituents who have no children in the school district, to have someone on the board who can speak for them. I feel like I fill that roll. I’m mainly more for the seniors, because I am one."

Chris Jones is the current board president. He was elected president in 2011, replacing Keith Rabenberg. Jones has served three terms.

"I've got three children in the district, so I continue to have a very vested interest in future success of our school district," Jones said.

He said the finances of the district are priority.

"How can we ensure that we continue to have the resources we need to provide a high quality education for all of our kids," he said.

"We've had to make some tough cuts with us receiving less money regarding various valuations that have come down," he said. "So we have to make sure that we do what we need to do, whether that means looking for ways to continue to reduce costs, whether that is looking at ways to increase revenue sources like bond issues."

The opening date for filing to run for a seat on the Board of Education is 8 a.m. on Tuesday, December 11. The closing date is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013. Filing is done at the Administrative Center, at 1201 Hanley Industrial Court.

This election will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013.
