VIDEO: Mosaic 5k Supports MRH Families in Need

The Maplewood Richmond Heights High School track hosted a family-friendly day of foot-racing to raise funds for Mosaic Services, a network of support services designed to break the cycle of poverty for needy families in the school district.

Cool temperatures and overcast skies made for a lighter than usual turnout for the third annual Mosaic 5K, but the small field of runners that gathered at on Saturday morning still drew an enthusiastic crowd of friends and family to cheer them on.

Following the completion of the course by the final participants, the track was host to three shorter children's races, ranging from 100 meters to half a mile.

The event served as a fundraiser for Mosaic Services, a support network for at-risk students in the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District that partners with families to meet their academic, social and financial needs.

Not long after the event began, the weather brightened and the day took on a festival atmosphere. A colorful clown drew a crowd of children who waited patiently while she constructed dozens of intricate balloon sculptures and excited shreiks filled the air when Fredbird arrived to toe the line in the shorter track races.
