Weather Will Delay Naming New Ladue School Superintendent

The Board of Education is now expected to announce a new leader Tuesday night.

Friday 10:50 a.m. Update

A previous version of this story indicated that Dr. Fred Czerwonka would be interviewing with community members and the Board of Education on Saturday. The Board interview will take place Saturday, but the community interviews will be held Monday. Patch apologizes for any confusion and has corrected the story below

Weather conditions which have canceled classes Thursday and Friday at Ladue Schools will delay the naming of a new superintendent until Tuesday.

Dr. Fred Czerwonka, the Superintendent of the West Plains (MO) School District, will interview with the Board of Education Saturday and with community stakeholders on Monday. Dr. Jonathan Lamberson, currently Superintendent of the Riverside (IL) School District 96 in suburban Chicago, will now interview through the day and into the evening Monday with the board and stakeholders in place of the regularly scheduled School Board meeting.

Dr. Donna Jahnke, Ladue's Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning has already interviewed for the position.

The original plan called for the School Board to announce a selection at Monday's meeting. That is now expected to take place Tuesday night. A school district spokeswoman was not certain late Thursday when board members would meet in closed session to decide on a candidate once the interviews were completed.

The finalist wil take over for Interim Superintendent Dr. Judy Sclair, the district's assistant superintendent for human resources who took on the interim duties full-time this semester following Dr. Marsha Chappelow's move last fall to request a leave of absence for the remainder of her tenure.

I can't believe these are the three finalists. Where are the finalists from from top districts in the country we keep hearing we are like, or want to be like? Unless you already knew what you were doing, which I believe, I question this search. I think the school board owes it to the community to release the names of all candidates who applied and were rejected and/or who were contacted and declined.

I believe the best choice by far of the three Superintendent candidates is Dr. Donna Jahnke, and I hope Ladue residents are emailing the Board at LadueBoard@LadueSchools.net to offer their input quickly before this final and crucial decision is announced early next week.

While she may be the best of the three, is she the best that a national search could bring in? Seems clear that the other two candidates were selected to make her look better. Such a dissapointment.
