MRH's 'Steel Magnolias' Wins Cappies Nominations

These MRH students and performances were nominated for a Cappies Award — the Tony Award for high school theater.

High school theater performers and organizers from grabbed several nominations for Cappies Awards — the high school equivalent of the Tony Awards on Broadway.

The awards will be announced at the annual Cappies gala on May 19, at 6 p.m., at the Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center on the campus of Missouri Baptist University.

MRH scored a best play nomination for its production of Steel Magnolias, along with its lead actress, Alex Ford, for best lead actress in a play. Several other students from MRH received various nominations for their work.

The awards span 40 categories, ranging from best musical and play to best critic team from a high school, as well as a number of technical awards such as lighting and sound.

The Cappies is a national critics and performers program that training student performers and journalists how to critique stage productions.

Sixteen area high schools participate. Reviews by student reviewers are published on Patch, as well as by the St. Louis Beacon and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
