Brentwood Baseball's Kevin Smith is Conference Player of the Year

baseball went 15-8 before losing to South Callaway in Sectionals. Brentwood defeated Valley Park 7-3 to win the district championship.

Seven Eagles were selected by the conference coaches to either first or second-team All-Conference in the SCAA. The players are listed below, along with comments from Brentwood head coach Mike Imergoot.

First Team All-Conference

• Kevin Smith, senior, Player of the Year
  

We focus on the senior who's the most outstanding player in the conference. Kevin by far was the senior with the best overall record in terms of hitting and pitching. I recommended him and we all voted and he was selected overwhelmingly. He's the best senior in the conference by far.

• Dylan McGehee, sophomore, infield
  

Sophomore with a .594 batting average – second in the area. And Tate Matheny is graduating, so Dylan has a good shot, if he has a year like this year, to be the leading hitter in the area.

•  Tyler Jones, senior, outfield
  

His fielding is impeccable. He's an awesome defensive outfielder, and he also hit .400.

•  Jesse Sneed, senior, utility
  

There's no question that Jesse deserved to be first team, based on his pitching and his outfield play. He's a terrific all-around player.

Second-team All-Conference

• Ryan Vogeli, sophomore, pitcher
  

Ryan had a really good year as a sophomore. He was 3-2, and every game he pitched he kept us in it. Based on his no-hitter and his shutout against Crossroads, that sealed the deal as the second-team pitcher. He has no fear. I'm sorry I'm losing him and his brother. They're moving back to Michigan.

•  Steven Sadler, junior, catcher
  

Steve Sadler speaks for himself, he's a terrific catcher. He did a great job behind the plate–caught every game. He hit .313 so he had a really good offensive year also.

• Jake Caragher, senior, utility
  

Jake did a nice job at second base defensively. He hit well–he went over .360 and he also pitched in relief. He had a save, and kept us in some ballgames early in the season.

Looking at next season

Imergoot said he has to replace the entire outfield; the entire infield, except for Dylan; and the entire pitching staff. He said some strong sophomores are coming up along some freshmen who will make varsity.

Looking at pitching, "We're not going to have a stopper at pitcher, but we've had a glimpse of what our pitching staff is going to be like," he said.

"I threw Connor Hancock once in our tournament and Bradley Jones pitched a couple times in the tournament and they both did a really good job," Imergoot said. "He's (Jones) got a really nice fastball. He's going to be a sophomore next year."

He said defensively they'll be strong.

"I see guys like Tyler Prior on the JV is a really strong hitter, and a very good infielder and catcher. Outfielders, I've got some gazelles coming up. Roland Floyd, Marc Powells, and Lucas Jones is a real solid player. He hits well; he fields impeccably, and has a very good arm and he's a good base runner," he said.

He said realistically he has no idea how they'll do, but he hopes they can win 12 games.

They'll have a tough non-conference schedule, including St. Pius, Orchard Farm and John F. Kennedy.

"We're going to hit. I'm sure we're going to hit," Imergoot said. "It's always neat to start over. Clean the slate."
