Brentwood Sweeps Its Own Baseball Tournament
Brentwood's aggressive pitching and baserunning turns out to be too much for the opposition at Brentwood Park.
Brentwood came out the big winner at its baseball tournament at Brentwood Park on Saturday. The Eagles defeated McClure South-Berkeley 13-2, Cardinal Ritter 5-0, and blanked Maplewood Richmond Heights, 14-0, in the day's final game. The games were five innings long.
Jesse Sneed, a Brentwood junior, pitched a two-hit shutout against Cardinal Ritter. Meanwhile, senior Ryan Jones blanked the MRH Blue Devils, and if it weren't for a walk in the first inning (with the count at 3-2), he would have had a perfect game.
"Great pitching, great hitting and extremely aggressive baserunning," said Mike Imergoot, the team's coach. "Lots of stolen bases. That's the way our guys play."
The beautiful weather on Saturday was a rarity for the tournament, which has been rained out the past five years.
The Eagles stand at 5-1 in conference play and 9-4 overall. Imergoot said he thinks they have a shot at winning their district, but they'll have to get past Barat Academy, which currently has a 12-3 overall record.
Brentwood plays at MRH on Tuesday.
