Eagles Down Blue Devils in First Soccer Game

Brentwood head coach Cory Grage got a good game from his experienced team in the season’s first game.

The Eagles outplayed Maplewood Richmond Heights 5-1 at Brentwood Wednesday.

“Dustin (Snead), Dylan (McGehee), Seamus (Saunders), they’ve all played for me a number of years,” Grage said. “They know what they’re doing, and they came out fired up and ready to play tonight.”

Josh Moreno and Eddie Wright scored one each and McGehee hit three. One of McGhehee’s was a free kick that Grage called “phenomenal.”

“It curled it around the outside of the wall and clanked if off the near post. There was no way a keeper had a shot at it,” he said.

MRH coach Jamie Frisella said his team needed to play like they played the last 10-15 minutes of the game, with more fire.

He said it’s a young team.

“I have one senior that’s played all four years,” he said. “The next most experienced person has played two years of high school soccer.”

Frisella said overall he’s not disappointed.

“We just have to come together as a team, and they’ll get there,” he said. “We’re going to get them back at least twice this year.”

MRH senior Logan Hamilton scored MRH’s lone goal.

Brentwood plays at Hazelwood East Monday and Bayless at Brentwood Wednesday. Both games are at 4 p.m. MRH has Tower Grove at MRH Thursday at 4 p.m.
