Girls Soccer: MRH is Finished, Brentwood to Play in District Finals

Maplewood Richmond Heights wrapped up a tough season Tuesday with a loss to John Burroughs.

The girls soccer season is over for . The team lost in the first round of district playoffs.

For Brentwood, it's win-or-go-home time.

The Blue Devils and and the Eagles are in a three-team district tournament with John Burroughs. The Bombers beat MRH easily on Tuesday, 10-0, ending the Blue Devils' season. MRH finished 0-9 in the South Central A.A. Conference and 1-23 overall.

MRH coach Amber Godfrey said the team struggled with numbers. While the team didn't always field a full team, it competed hard.

"We had a group of good dedicated girls that, everytime we went on the field— whether we were playing with 11 or playing with seven—they went out and played hard," Godfrey said. "Our win-loss record may not show that, but they competed hard on the field."

She said there's a good group of 6th, 7th and 8th-graders coming up, meaning the number of people participating in MRH's program should build.

Brentwood, the No. 1 seed in the district tournament, had a bye. The team will play Burroughs (6-8 overall) at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at John Burroughs, which is hosting the tournament. It will be the first time the two teams have met this year.

The Eagles have been playing since April 13 without junior Sammi Merloti, who went down with a torn ACL in a game against Bayless. The team has picked up the slack under the leadership of juniors Maddy Lynch and Kate Nikodym.

The Bombers are 0-1 in conference play.
