Rich Nixon Replaced by J.C. Kime as MRH Head Football Coach

J.C. Kime has been head defensive coach for the past two seasons.

Maplewood Richmond Heights head football coach Rich Nixon is being replaced by J.C. Kime, head defensive coach of the past two seasons.

MRH Director of Communications Brian Adkisson said Nixon’s contract as head football coach was an ‘extra-duty contract’ and was only ever intended to be for one year.

“He’s already a fulltime employee," Adkisson said. "It’s a one-year, which is what all extra-duty contracts are, a one-year contract,” Adkisson said.

Nixon also had a one-year extra-duty contract as a physical education teacher last year, and that has ended also, Adkisson said.

He said Nixon was not fired as coach.

“There was nothing about someone being asked to step down, that’s not the case,” Adkisson said. “They were a one-year interim basis for both of those (coach and PE teacher). He was hired as an athletic director, and that is what he is continuing to be.”

He said an incoming math teacher will become an assistant football coach, and Nixon’s former position as PE teach will be filled.

“We shifted a lot of teachers around, which is quite normal during the summer months,” Adkisson said. “Obviously if he’s not doing it, we had to fill it in some capacity.”

Rich Nixon could not immediately be reached for comment.
