Season Recap: Brentwood Teams Endure Challenging Season

A look back at the recently concluded boys and girls basketball season through photos.

It was a very challenging season for the Brentwood boys and girls basketball teams, but there were plenty of exciting games and stories. Patch was on hand all season long, and captured many great moments through photos.

The Brentwood boys lost to Carnahan, 65-51, in the Class 3 District 5 Tournament to finish with a 9-15 record. Senior guard Andrew Erby ended his impressive prep career by averaging a team-leading 15.1 points per game. He was helped out by senior center Amadou Cisse, who averaged 9.8 points, 10 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game.

Coach Brad Kern does return junior forward Diontez Edwards, who averaged 7.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season. The Eagles lost eight of their last 10 games, and went 4-6 in the South Central Athletic Association Conference.

The girls team, meanwhile, concluded their season with a 73-37 loss to Metro in the Class 3 District 5 quarterfinals. Coach Scott Long will return his marquee player next season, junior Sammi Merlotti. In fact, Long is only losing two of his 10 players to graduation.

Merlotti, who missed the previous season, averaged a team-high 13.6 points per game. Also returning next season will be sophomore Meredith McGrath, who led the Eagles with 12.9 rebounds per game. McGrath was second on the team with 6.3 points per game.
