MRH Bests Brentwood in Faceoff of Girl Throwers

Brentwood's freshman met Maplewood Richmond Heights' senior at the MRH Varsity Invitational and the senior won.

Seventeen girls track teams and 12 boys teams were represented at the Maplewood Richmond Heights Varsity Invitational on Tuesday.

MRH hosted the meet, but the girls finished 8th overall and the boys 10th. The Brentwood girls were 14th and the boys didn't field a team.

The tightest competition between the Eagles and the Blue Devils was in the girls' throwing contests.

Brentwood freshman Sophia Rivera, who broke school records in shot put and discus in her first high school meet, met MRH senior Britney Bell.

Bell won both contests, with Rivera taking second in both.

Bell won the shot put by four inches, and the discus by two feet, five inches.

MRH junior Essence Brewer took third in the girls' 400-meter race and fourth in both the 100 and 200.
