VIDEO: Football Blue Devils Ready for New Season
Following a season that took them to the state championship game, Maplewood Richmond Heights begins this season with high hopes.
Last week the Maplewood Richmond Heights football team trained outdoors at for a few days of summer football camp.
Last Monday was the Blue Devils’ first workout together outdoors.
Head coach Brandon Gregory, now in his second year, hopes to again make it to "The Dome," a reference to the Edward Jones Dome where the state high school championship semifinals and finals are played each season. Last year, MRH game to Penney, 34-13.

Gregory mentioned as a team leader. Junior Wes Williams, late last year after Hagens had an emergency surgery, will be the backup quarterback, as well as the team’s middle linebacker.
Junior defensive lineman Antar Thompson will be hard for opponents to get around. He went to a University of Missouri football camp over the summer and was voted the MVP of the entire camp, which showcased over 200 players. Veteran junior Aaron Spudich is also on the defensive line.

New defensive coordinator J.C. Kime, who previously coached at Hazelwood Central, likes the team’s speed. He said speed wins out over size, and said he's shown that at other schools he's coached.
MRH will play MICDS in its season opener on August 27, and rival Brentwood comes next on September 2. Both are home games.
