Maplewood Librarian Recommends 5 Books for Young Readers
Last summer kids in the summer reading program read for more than 3,600 hours.
Barb Patten, Children’s and Teen Librarian at the Maplewood Public Library, at Patch’s request, recommended five books for young readers.
She gave us two picture books, two chapter books for elementary school (3rd-4th grade) readers and one for teens or adults.
For every hour a kid spends reading, they put a bean in a jar on Patten's desk. At the end of the summer is a contest to guess the number of beans. Last summer there were more than 3,600.
