Chris Reidel of Brentwood: Krav Maga Self Defense Could Save Your Life-Fast

Chris Reidel says, "I stress that Krav Maga is a self defense system...You will learn that straight away." You do have to WANT to defend yourself by any means necessary.

Imagine James Bond in hand to hand combat, now make it real…think of Jackie Chan in Rush hour 2 disarming the guy with Samurai swords, now make it real…think of Israeli commandos facing life or death situations in mysterious places, it is real.

Krav Maga was born in the fight. Israeli military hand-to-hand combat specialists developed a training system that works. KM takes real-life situations, prepares the body and mind to react.

Instructor Chris Reidel was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1996. After experimenting with several martial arts systems, he was introduced to Krav Maga by a friend. The practical aspects of the system were exciting and refreshing when compared to other styles of self defense. He found the realism for which he was looking. As he gained experience in the system, much of his time was spent sharing his knowledge with others. Chris decided to become an instructor, completing certification with Commando Krav Maga so he could train others to protect themselves.

He says, “We don't like to refer to Krav Maga as a martial art.  We don't have forms or katas like traditional Marital Arts. It is a practical, in your face self defense system, designed to get one out of a bad situation as fast as possible so that one can be home safe and sound.  I stress that it s a self defense system.  It is not a fight class.  It is not an MMA class.  It is not a boxing class or ground fighting class.

One thing I always tell new students when they ask me to compare the style of Krav Maga I teach to others in the area is that right away you will learn how to protect yourself in real word situations.  You will not have to take 2 years of class before you learn to defend yourself against a person with a gun or knife.  You will learn that straight away.  In fact, in the very first level you will learn to defend yourself against chokes-standing or if they happen to you on the ground, guns to the body, knife thrusts and someone punching you…when I teach, I also add in defense against other assaults such as car-jackings, being held by  a person putting a gun to your head, etc.  These are skills needed in today’s world since they have happened in our area.”
