Hermann London Holds Halloween 5K for Charity

About 250 people came out to run at the Hermann London Halloween 5K race, despite that it started early the morning after the Cardinals won the world series.

The morning after the St. Louis Cardinals won their 11th World Series title, most St. Louisans were probably sleeping – if they’d even gone to bed yet.

But one group of 250 very dedicated runners brushed the confetti out of their hair, donned their costumes and joined the , a race to benefit local charities serving survivors of domestic violence.

“I was out the night before celebrating myself, and I had to get up at 6 a.m.,” said Adam Kruse, an organizer for the event. “That was a challenge.”

The second annual race saw fewer runners for obvious reasons, but Kruse says he still thinks they’ll raise several thousand dollars for this year’s charities, The Women’s Safe House and the Missouri Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence.

Kruse says organizers designed the race to be Maplewood-centric, a way to unite the neighborhood. The track took runners around the parking lot of , and winners received prizes from local businesses.

“We wanted to have a good strong relationship with Maplewood, let Maplewood know that we are here to support them,” he said.

Next year’s race will be on Oct. 27.
