The Giants beat the Cardinals 9-0 in Game 7 to end the Redbirds' 2012 season.
There will be no World Series in St. Louis this season. There will be no parade down Market Street, no 12th world championship and no rematch of the 2006 Fall Classic. Monday night in San Francisco the Cardinals hopes of a repeat of 2011 were ended at the hands of the Giants. Just like in 1996, the Cardinals, with a new manager, had a 3-1 lead in the National League Championship series. And, just like in '96, the Cards failed to get win No. 4, losing in Game 7 in a blowout. The Cardinals were done in by a series of miscues and the inability to get a big basehit. But, credit the San Francisco, the Giants had to play perfect to come back and did just that. The loss in California closes the book on an interesting season for the Cardinals…

Today marks the 10th anniversary of Jack Buck's death. What is your favorite memory of the Hall of Fame St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster?
Seemingly everybody in St. Louis—baseball fan or not—has a great memory of Jack Buck, the legendary St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster. Whether it was a candid moment on the streets outside Busch Stadium or a famous play-by-play call heard around the country, Jack Buck touched so many lives that he is considered St. Louis royalty. Here's a tribute Bob Costas, a St. Louis-native, left for Jack Buck in the book "Remembering Jack Buck: Wonderful Stories Celebrating The Life Of A Broadcasting Legend": "Jack had a presence in the life of anyone who was around St. Louis for any period of time. There were highlights—Ozzie Smith's home run, Jack Clark's home run, and the reading of the poem when baseball returned after the September 11 tragedy. …

All-star first baseman will answer questions, post exclusive videos and share advice for young athletes in new, regular feature on Patch.
Good news, Cardinals fans! There’s a high-priced, power-hitting, first baseman on the way. Not to play for St. Louis, of course (We think Berkman and Allen Craig will be just fine). Instead, Patch users young and old can tap into the expertise of New York Yankees star Mark Teixeira, who has been named “Commissioner of Patch Baseball.” Teixeira, a four-time Gold Glove winner and two-time All-Star, will interact with Patch users by regularly responding to questions, sharing baseball tips, and posting exclusive videos. Teixeira will also offer young athletes advice on how to stay in shape and why healthful eating is so important for optimal performance. “I live in a Patch town now and I keep tabs on my original hometown via the Patch site …

The Eagles open their season Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Mike Imergoot has a lot to be excited about this season. In his first year as head coach of the Brentwood baseball team, Imergoot has a young—but veteran—team that's already experienced both success and failure. The Eagles went undefeated (9-0) in the South Central A. A. Conference last year before suffering a 13-0 loss to Valle Catholic in the Class 2 District 4 Tournament. But Valle Catholic changed its district this year and Crystal City, another Brentwood nemesis, moved up to Class 3. All eyes are on senior Ryan Jones this season, whose two-seam fastball helped him net a 7-0 record in the conference last season. "I have high expectations for our team. We have a potentially really good team," Imergoot said. He carefully stressed the …

Maplewood Richmond Heights fought back late in the game.
A seventh-inning home run from McCluer senior Lance Jeffries spoiled a late Maplewood Richmond Heights rally as the Comets beat the Blue Devils 7-6 at Deer Creek Park on Wednesday night. MRH trailed McCluer 5-3 in the sixth inning after a string of McCluer pitchers retired 12 consecutive MRH batters between the second and sixth innings. MRH junior Brad Swedlund broke the streak with a single to center field in the sixth. Junior Sam Martin followed with a two-run homer to tie the game at 5. Jeffries then broke the tie with his home run to right field and junior Jamaine Richmond followed that with a triple hit to nearly the same spot. Richmond later scored on a passed ball to put McCluer ahead, 7-5. MRH had an opportunity to capture the lead…
