Sunday was Boy Scout Sunday, and the troop chartered by Maplewood Richmond Heights Elementary hosted a brunch for the church as a thank you.
The usually active Maplewood United Methodist Church was even busier on Sunday. Boy Scouts from Troop 362 and their families filled in extra spots in the pews. It was the annual Boy Scout Sunday observance. The troop has about 50 members. See more photos at Maplewood-Brentwood Patch Facebook. The scouts served pancakes, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and sausages to the congregation after the service. The troop normally meets at MRH Elementary on Thursday nights, but when a scheduling conflict comes up, the church allows the troop to meet there. The pancakes were a thank you. Each scout and leader of the troop has a small "80" stitched onto his uniform to indicate how many years the troop has been in existence. It's one of the oldest …

A once Richmond Heights Boy Scout troop assistant leader and former Hazelwood man was named, accused of assaulting scouts in 1978. He is currently in St. Louis County Jail, charged with failing to register as a sex offender.
A Richmond Heights Boy Scout troop assistant leader was fired in 1979 after three allegations of child sexual abuse surfaced, according to the recently released Boy Scouts “Perversion Files. The files contain 1,200 cases—including 261 in the St. Louis and St. Charles County area—of suspected sexual abuse as well as efforts by the Boy Scouts, law enforcement and community leaders to shield suspected leaders from consequences. The Scouts terminated John J. Kelley, of Hazelwood, from his position as assistant Scoutmaster of a Richmond Heights troop after learning of three separate, suspected accounts of sexual assault against scouts during two campouts, according to a statement from a then-14-year-old scout troop member included in the file. …

Patch is still sifting through the hundreds of files released, but read the story to find an alleged incident from a Webster Groves troop.
The recently released Boy Scout "Perversion Files," files that detail cases nationwide of sexual abuse by scout leaders, include 205 cases in Missouri, involving 56 troops in the St. Louis area and St. Charles County. The files detail hundreds of cases of alleged sexual abuse perpetrated by Boy Scout leaders as well as efforts by Boy Scout officials, law enforcement and community leaders to shield those leaders from consequences. The Los Angeles Times incorporated the files into a searchable database, although not all documents are yet available online. The documents include names of those accused of abuse and the names of the children who were abused. Among those are reported incidents in Brentwood, Clayton and Richmond Heights. According…

Joey Musial and his Brentwood Boy Scout troop built a butterfly garden for elementary school students.
Lindbergh High School freshman, and Boy Scout, Joey Musial recently built a butterfly garden at Concord Elementary School for his Eagle Scout project. Musial is from Brentwood, and is in the Program for Exceptionally Gifted Students (PEGS) program at Lindbergh. At Truman Elementary School, Musial and his PEGS classmates visited the school’s butterfly garden on several occasions during classroom activities. However when Truman students moved to Concord in 2011, they no longer had access to a butterfly garden. Musial’s project provided a solution by giving back to the PEGS community while also fulfilling his Eagle Scout Project requirement. Joey’s fellow Scouts in Troop 361 from Brentwood helped with the project, and Tom Krauska (aka Tom …
