Plow Truck to a Dentist? Brentwood Officials Wrestle with City Vehicle Use

Alderman Anthony Harper used an extreme example to spark a discussion about proper use of city vehicles.

At the November Brentwood Public Safety Committee meeting, Ward 1 Alderman Anthony Harper protested a city employee taking a city-owned ambulance to a volleyball game at St. Mary Magdalen School. The conversation continued at last night’s Public Safety Committee meeting. Fire Chief Ted Jury said they have no policy on the topic. “When the guys go to these type of events, a school, public event, they’re always in service," he said. "They have the ability to respond from where ever they’re at. Brentwood’s a small town. It’s only two square miles, so they’re never far away from any one place. I don’t think it causes a problem, but that's my opinion.” He said it’s never been brought to him before the issue at Mary Magdalen. Police Chief Steve …

Dierbergs, Hanley Station Managers Say Police Presence, Cameras Stop Crime

Executives from three commercial areas spoke at the Brentwood Public Safety Committee meeting Thursday.

In a Brentwood Public Safety Committee meeting when police chief Steve Disbennett said violent crime is up, and some of it in public areas, Alderman Tom Kramer, on the committee, said he'd like to see commercial community members to play a bigger roll in deterrence. There's a "potential of a team partnership between the city and our commercial corridor operators, so we can work together for creating safety and deterrence in our commercial areas," he said in a Public Safety Committee meeting on Thursday. Representatives from the larger Brentwood businesses were invited to talk about crime in their areas, and what they’ve done about it. Some came from Hanley Station, the Meridian and Dierbergs. Ann Degnon, general manager of SpringHill …

I wish I had a nickle for every time I heard just wait until, the TIFF pays off.. Meanwhile, the coffers get lower and our taxes go up. Just received my tax bill last week, guess what? the Brentwood School District raised our rates 10%. Waiting for these TIFF's to expire is like waiting for Santa Claus to come down the chimney.   more ›

Four For Four, Krewson Runs For Ward 4 Alderwoman

She may be temporarily under the weather, but Brentwood aldermanic incumbent Lorraine Krewson has more work to do for the city.

Lorraine Krewson has unfinished business with the Brentwood Board of Aldermen. That’s why the 81-year-old Ward 4 alderwoman is seeking her fourth term. Unfortunately, Krewson declined Patch's requests for an interview. She has not been feeling well lately. “It’s not a good time to be sick,” she said in a brief telephone conversation. “Not that there is any really good time to be sick.” So Patch did some research on Krewson and identified some of her recent votes that Ward 4 residents might want to know about. We also talked with two peers. Krewson has been an alderwoman since 2004 and currently serves on the Brentwood Public Safety Committee, the Ways and Means Committee and the Human Relations Commission. She is also the liaison between …

Stop Sign at Bridgeport/High School Draws Aldermanic Attention

The Public Safety Committee is divided on whether the stop sign should become permanent or be removed altogether.

The temporary stop sign at the intersection of Bridgeport Avenue and High School Drive has been a divisive topic for the Brentwood Public Safety Committee. Drivers are required to stop at the sign while school is in session, but the sign is removed after school ends for the day. During a meeting last week, alderwomen Barb Clements (Ward 1) and Lorraine Krewson (Ward 4) voiced their desires to make the stop sign permanent throughout the day. Clements said residents living on Bridgeport asked for the sign to be made permanent because traffic backs up during after-school events, such as football games. Krewson backed the proposal, saying a temporary stop sign is too confusing for drivers. But the other two committee members, aldermen Anthony …

get rid of the stop sign at Bridgeport and High School. I would also like to see the stop sign removed at Litzsinger and Annalee. I believe having an abundance of stop signs encourages people to roll through them rather than stop.   more ›
