Drury Gains Preliminary Approval for Brentwood Development

The Brentwood Redevelopment Corporation approved a measure to blight the potential Drury location at Brentwood Boulevard and Eager Road.

A plan to add a Drury hotel in Brentwood gained preliminary approval last week. The Brentwood Redevelopment Corporation, a public body charged with advising the city about Drury's potential development, voted unanimously to blight the location at the corner of Brentwood Boulevard and Eager Road. State statutes define blighted areas as those that are an economic or social liability, resulting from inadequate design, crime and other factors. The designation paves the way for future tax breaks for Drury. Drury has requested $5.7 million in public funding to help pay for the development. More details about that request are available in a previous Patch article. Sheri Bilderback, a member of the committee, called the measure a great investment …

Maplewood rejects TIF, Brentwood gives. A development along the central corridor requires the public to kick in 16%? Blighted- was the hotel built on blighted ground on Hanley? How is $5.7 million Brentwood portion arrived at? Again, the concept seems promising for such an odd physical location, but is this too much on the public's back for a private deal? Especially since the city's return for …   more ›

Drury Asks for Tax Breaks to Build Brentwood Hotel

The hotel would be located at the corner of Brentwood Boulevard and Eager Road.

A plan to construct a Drury hotel in Brentwood would require $5.7 million in taxpayer assistance, representatives from the hotel company said on Thursday night. They presented the plan during a meeting of the Brentwood Redevelopment Corporation, a nine-member public body charged with discussing redevelopment proposals in Brentwood. The hotel project would include 215 rooms and a 7,500 square-foot restaurant on 4.6 acres at the corner of Brentwood Boulevard and Eager Road. Meeting facilities, an exercise room and an indoor and outdoor pool are also planned for the hotel. "It's an important piece of property in Brentwood and an extremely good developer," said John Geppert, a Brentwood resident and chairman of the Brentwood Redevelopment …

Flooding on Manchester Road Discussed by Brentwood Committee

The Brentwood Redevelopment Corporation discussed plans to alleviate flooding issues during a meeting on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Brentwood Redevelopment Corporation discussed options for advancing development on Manchester Road between Brentwood Boulevard and Hanley Road. Much of the area lies in a floodplain, which has led some buildings to be vacated. In September 2008, Deer Creek flooded and forced dozens of residents out of the Executive Walk apartments, KSDK Newschannel 5 reported. The city so far has been unsuccessful in its efforts to get federal funding to buy out some of the property, located at 8703 Brentshire Walk, Rottjakob said. The Board of Aldermen expressed support for an effort to get federal funds in a November 2010 resolution, meeting minutes state. At the time, the demolition of the buildings and preparatory work needed to convert…

Brentwood Awaits Word from Drury on Economic Incentives

The city's redevelopment corporation agreed Tuesday to act quickly but thoroughly as the hotel project moves forward.

Members of the Brentwood Redevelopment Corporation committed Tuesday to be responsive and meet as needed as plans for a new Drury hotel unfold over the coming months. "This is, in reality, the last really major piece of property in Brentwood that is just screaming to be developed," said John Geppert, a resident and member of the organization, during the meeting at City Hall. "And I think we want to do this in the best possible fashion, and I communicated that to the Drury people. And I think that in order to do that, we have to keep in mind that when a city enters into a relationship like this, it's a partnership. And we need to respond quickly." While Drury Development Corporation had not requested any economic development tools as of …
