The Eagles made it to the district semi-final game.
Just like the first time the Brentwood boys played John Burroughs, in Dec., it was Burroughs’ transition game that beat Brentwood. John Burroughs defeated Brentwood in the Class 3 District 4 semifinal game 56-74, at host, Lutheran St. Charles. “They’re one of the better transition teams we’ve seen,” Brentwood coach Brad Kern said. See more game photos at Maplewood-Brentwood Patch Facebook. The Brentwood coaches thought this game could be different, but in the middle quarters of the game, senior Ezekiel Elliot broke free to score on six layups, at times going the length of the court. “I thought Zek went to work in the middle of the game, and finally took it over,” John Burroughs coach Steve Willcutt said. “He’s hard to play against if he …

See game photos at Maplewood-Brentwood Patch Facebook. See more seniors photos. "That was pretty impresive," Jones said. "They shot well, they played defense well. Maplewood is a good team; they had an off night." MRH coach Erica Anderson said the Blue Devils had some setbacks early and didn't bounce back. "You make them remember this game, to know they don't want to go back to that game," she said. "They're hurting, and that's a good …

The Eagles were behind from the start, in the Friday game.
Bayless boys basketball lost to Brentwood at home last year, and came to the Eagles' home court on Friday with a plan to even the score. They did it convincingly. “They beat us by one point at our place,” Bayless’ Munir Hirkic told STLtoday.com. “So we had a bit of a chip on our shoulder and we came out ready to play.” See more photos at Maplewood-Brentwood Patch Facebook. STLtoday.come reported on the game at Brentwood, which the Bronchos won, 70-44. Bayless (8-3) got 20 points from Hirkic and a team-high 26 from Patrick Triplett – 17 in the second half – as it improved to 2-0 in the conference. It's been a long time since MRH basketball has won a tournament.
Maplewood Richmond Heights basektball looked good early in the season, winning a big area tournament at Webster Groves. MRH beat Marquette 42-20 in the final, on Saturday. The Blue Devils play at Hancock on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Their next home game is Wednesday, Dec. 19 against Carnahan. MRH is currently 5-1. Brentwood is 3-2. Both girls teams lost Monday night in semifinal basketball games. On Tuesday, unfortunately, so did the boys.
Tuesday night was a tough one for Brentwood and Maplewood Richmond Heights basketball. Both boys teams lost their Class 3 District 5 semifinal games at host, Vashon. MRH lost the 5:00 game in a way that was hard to take, and not just because the final score was 64-65. The Devils fell behind 16-19 and 25-38 at the half. Then they started fighting their way back. It was 41-49 after three quarters. They came to within a point, 52-53, with 4:42 to go, tied it at 59 with 1:50 on the clock, and again went down by one with a minute to go. At 12 seconds, junior forward Aaron Collins scored a layup to put the Devils up, for the first time in the game, 64-63. Unfortunately, with seconds to go, it was Collins who called a timeout when MRH had no …
