It was such fun and a big attraction for us when we were kids. Christmas without gingerbread wouldn’t be Christmas at all.” Schubert continues his family’s tradition of making gingerbread houses with his kids at home and at work, where he recently constructed, with his team of bakers, a gingerbread house that weighs in around 800 pounds, of which 500 pounds is gingerbread. “When you make a gingerbread house, no matter how …

Viewfinder: Brentwood Optimists Serve Up Barbecue

The fundraiser is a twice-a-year event. This spring's BBQ was last Thursday ad Friday.

The Brentwood Evening Optimists fire up the grills twice a year to raise funds for local charities. They set up shop by the Gene-Del Printing parking lot, the same place they sell Christmas trees in December. Another member, Mary Meers—"like beers with an M," she cracks—was headed to Brentwood High School afterward to award two scholarships to seniors in memory of two past members. Girls Town/Boys Town of Missouri, Brentwood Police/DARE and Goff Moll Post 101 Youth Baseball are other charities they dontate, among many others. Look for the tent again in…
