Monarch Reopening as Party Venue

Monarch served its last meal as a restaurant on March 10. Herbie's Vintage 72 will manage its next life.

Monarch, in Maplewood, is being reborn. A good-sized crowd filled the space for a Kentucky Derby party this year and it must have gone well. Once the home of renowned St. Louis chef Josh Galliano, the space will soon be converted for use as a private party venue. "We feel that Monarch is the perfect venue for wedding receptions, charity events, cocktail parties with live music, and corporate holiday parties," Monarch's Facebook page states. According to the website, more than 10,000 square feet of space is available. The team at Herbie's Vintage 72, in the Central West End, will manage the space. It will be Herbie's food in Monarch, keeping the name. Call 314-769-9595 for information. Read other Patch articles about Monarch Restaurant:

Monarch's Galliano Wins Food & Wine Magazine's Best New Chef

Josh Galliano won a multi-state poll, even though he's now without a restaurant.

Maplewood’s chef-currently-without-a-restaurant, Josh Galliano, was honored on Monday as Food & Wine magazine’s, The People’s Best New Chef for the Midwest. The magazine put the choice to its readers and Galliano won out over chefs from Iowa City, IA; Omaha, NE; Madison, WI; Minneapolis, MN and others. “He brings the Southern Louisiana flavors of his youth to Missouri using local produce,” Food & Wine states. It called his sautéed catfish wrapped in sweet potato with roasted mushrooms a “must-try dish.” Another Midwest chef nominated was another Maplewood chef, Home Wine Kitchen’s Cassy Vires. Despite the acclaim, Galliano is currently without a home-base. Monarch served its last meal on Saturday. He said in a previous Patch article that …

Vote Maplewood Chefs for Best in Midwest

Cast your vote if you want to see Monarch's Josh Galliano or HomeWineKitchen's Cassy Vires named The People's Best New Chef in the Midwest for Food & Wine Magazine.

Food & Wine Magazine is usually the place to go when foodies want to know who the next up-and-coming chefs are. But now the tables have turned. Food & Wine Magazine is asking readers who should be named the top ten new chefs in the U.S., and two of Maplewood's own are nominated: Monarch Restaurant's Josh Galliano and HomeWineKitchen's Cassy Vires. Galliano's star has been on the rise lately. He is a semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation Restaurant and Chefs Awards in the "Top Midwest Chef" category, a major award in the food industry. Despite the prestige Galliano has been earning in the food world, the restaurant where he's been working as executive chef is about to close down for good. Monarch announced its imminent closing late …
