Updated: April 23, 10 a.m. Happy Badger Studio, a group of mobile app developers, hopes to raise $18,000 through Kickstarter to help them design a poetic game puzzle called “Something Fragile.” What's it about? "In Something Fragile, you are a creature created for the sole purpose of protecting the heart that you were given. As this creature, you must progress through the levels and overcome the puzzles in order to carry the heart past the obstacles and through the environmental threats. The challenge of the game is to keep the heart safe throughout all of the puzzles, which will require the heart to be placed in harm's way in order to get it through each level safely. Backers helped the soon-to-open Maplewood donut shop raise $10,000 toward new kitchen equipment. With one challenge out of the way, now the shop's owners can focus on a sweet 'craft donut and beer tasting' event next week.
Corey Smale and his partners, Tyler Fenwick and Sweet Will, are getting ready to offer Maplewood residents "classic" flavored donuts in addition to a few of their own "creations" at their new shop, Strange Donuts, on Sutton Avenue. Thursday the trio successfully reached the goal of their $10,000 Kickstarter campaign toward the purchase of kitchen equipment, including a fryer and hood, oven, proofing box, donut cutter, mixer and glazing tables. The fundraising effort took just over two weeks. Three of the backers pledged more than $500, and will be able to collaborate with chef Sweet Will on a donut to be featured in the shop. Katie’s Pizzeria owner Katie Lee is looking for the community's help to expand her artisan cooking to Rock Hill, and support for the new restaurant is quickly growing. Lee launched a Kickstarter campaign in late January in hopes of opening Katie's Pizza and Pasta, and is a little more than $12,000 away from her $40,000 goal. Rebecca Hanneken plays guitar and tambourine (with her feet) while Mallory Barnes holds down the floor tom, glockenspiel and other hand percussion.
