Newman, O'Sullivan Campaign For 73rd District
Democratic incumbent Stacey Newman and Republican challenger Dan O'Sullivan are fighting for the 73rd district, which encompasses all of Maplewood and parts of Brentwood.
Stacey Newman Rep. Stacey Newman's (D-Richmond Heights) concern over school violence led her into politics. A series of high profile school shootings 10 years ago—just as her young daughter was beginning elementary school—spurred her into action. Her precocious young daughter, Sophie, was aware of the issue of school violence herself. She wrote a letter to media personality Rosie O'Donnell. O'Donnell was to be the emcee of an event called the "Million Mom March" on Washington, D.C., a grassroots effort to prevent gun death and injury.
