Mini Cooper Moves to Maplewood

Mini Cooper Moves to Maplewood

Mini Cooper of St. Louis started out in Clayton. Early in December it moved to 6-acres in the Sunnen Businesses Park in Maplewood. "We left a small outdated dealership in Clayton to this jewelbox here in Maplewood," sales manager Matt McMillin said. "We just outgrew our space in Clayton." See more photos at Maplewood-Brentwood Patch Facebook. He said in Clayton the show room and the service center weren't even at the same location. "We're on six acres, here," he said. "Everything is all in one place. It's easier to get to. We've got room to grow. You can't miss it." McMillin said it's the only Mini dealer in Missouri. The next closest are in Kansas City (KS), Indianapolis, Nashville and Chicago. The dealership is open every day of the week…

Proposed Budget Anticipates Stronger Maplewood Economy

A preliminary 2012-13 budget submitted by City Manager Martin Corcoran accounts for extra sales tax revenues from the expected openings of a Mini Cooper dealership and CVS.

Maplewood City Manager Martin Corcoran submitted the proposed 2012-2013 fiscal year budget last week. The introduction on the front page, signed by Corcoran, states that Maplewood’s financial position will continue to improve because of general improvement in the economy. The expected openings of the Mini Cooper Dealership and CVS also will generate additional sales tax revenues, Corcoran stated. The redevelopment of Deer Creek Center would also help, he said. He’s also optimistic that more businesses will move to Maplewood. The budget doesn't call for new city hires, but accounts for a 2 percent salary increase for all employees and additional 1 percent increase for qualified employees. Corcoran reports that the budget for all funds will …

Mini Cooper Development Moves Ahead

The Maplewood Planning and Zoning Commission approved three petitions that affected the pending development.

Preparations for a proposed Autohaus Mini Cooper dealership near the corner of Hanley and Manchester roads moved ahead Monday night when the Maplewood Planning and Zoning Commission approved three petitions benefiting the development.  Anthony Traxler, public works director for Maplewood, presented three petitions to the commission. The petitions called for: The petitions were presented by Traxler and approved by the seven-member commission in a meeting that lasted approximately 20 minutes. “This is basically housekeeping,” Traxler said. Other parts of the development plan were previously approved by Maplewood City Council. In Maplewood, New Car Dealership Means Losing Homes

The construction of a Mini Cooper dealership will force residents in rental properties to find new homes, but the development will bring an economic benefit to the city.

A Mini Cooper dealership's move from Clayton to Maplewood may spell success for local business, but the development is forcing many midde-to-lower income residents to vacate their rental homes. The Maplewood City Council gave preliminary approval on April 12 to rezone 9.62 acres of land southeast of Hanley and Manchester roads that are owned by Sunnen Products Company. Although the city will gain a new business—the only Mini Cooper dealership in the state—the developments may come at a high cost to residents living in that area. The rezoned acreage is home to people living in dozens of rental houses and the Applewood Place and Maplelawn Village apartment complexes, the latter of which already has boarded up buildings. Cozad Property …

I would not discount this Mini Cooper dealership yet. They will bring in a lot of tax money to the community and will help build our neighborhood for more businesses to look at Maplewood for a location for their future establishment. Also who is to say that the Mini Cooper dealership will not be a big part of our community. When my grandfather was alive he started a small used car lot in Lemay …   more ›

Residents Object to Rezoning Gerhard Avenue Lots for MRH Parking

The Maplewood Planning and Zoning Commission also voted to rezone roughly 10 acres of land near the Sunnen Products Company.

Some neighbors to the north of Maplewood Richmond Heights High School are concerned that the school district is gobbling up their neighborhood, “like an octopus,” as one resident said during a Maplewood Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on Monday night. The district plans to raze multiple homes to make room for a parking lot while replacing the school's current parking lot with a courtyard and other renovations. The district owns nine lots north of the high school that have already been rezoned by the city. The commission met Monday to discuss the rezoning of two more district-owned lots at 2544 and 2548 Gerhard Avenue. Motions to rezone both lots passed unanimously, though commission member Tom Bakersmith cast his vote “with a heavy …

A group of MRH parents have a Walking School Bus set up to encourage walking to school. MRH students living within a 1 mile radius of the school are required to walk or ride their bikes to school or drive unless they have to cross a major intersection. The only parking lot MRH high school has barely has enough spaces to house the cars of the faculty/staff (some of whom walk to work), so …   more ›
