Basketball coaches with College, Pro Experience Taking Over the Programs

Third place game at the state basketball tournament needs to be eliminated.

  Columbia--Some random thought on the state basketball tournament. From a historic perspective, my very first trip to the state basketball tournament was way back in 1972. That’s a very long time ago. The record books show that Bud Lathrop and his Raytown South Cardinals beat Denver Miller’s Kirkwood Pioneers, 52-48 in the large school title game. That was long before “Show-Me Showdowns” were ever conceived. Miller made it to the championship game four times in a 43-year career, having never won the first-place prize including one sudden death overtime loss. As a sports writer, I was greener than green at that stage of my career. That title game was held in musty old Brewer Field House, presently converted to a lavish student recreation …

Brentwood, MRH Wrestling Seasons Conclude in Columbia

Brentwood's seven wrestlers and MRH's three grapplers each were eliminated before the third day at the State Wrestling Championships at Mizzou Arena.

Though Brentwood wrestling brought seven wrestlers, the Eagles will be spectators on the final day of the Missouri State Wrestling Championships at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Mo. But there some victories along the way for Brentwood and coach Roy Hughes. At 112 pounds, sophomore Rashaad Jordan advanced past day one with a 12-10 decision over Brian Noble (Stanberry). Jordan’s season ended on Friday with a loss to Adrian’s Brandt McMillan in a fall at 2:32. He finishes at 21-11 for this season. Senior Elie Moore, at 140 pounds, ended his season at 31-17. After surviving past Thursday with a 7-6 win over Lathrop’s Trent Scobee, Moore lost in his first match on Friday, 13-6, to Kevin Adam (Blair Oaks). Hughes had a third Eagles grappler advance …
