VIDEO: Mosaic 5k Supports MRH Families in Need

The Maplewood Richmond Heights High School track hosted a family-friendly day of foot-racing to raise funds for Mosaic Services, a network of support services designed to break the cycle of poverty for needy families in the school district.

Cool temperatures and overcast skies made for a lighter than usual turnout for the third annual Mosaic 5K, but the small field of runners that gathered at Maplewood-Richmond Heights High School on Saturday morning still drew an enthusiastic crowd of friends and family to cheer them on. Following the completion of the course by the final participants, the track was host to three shorter children's races, ranging from 100 meters to half a mile. The event served as a fundraiser for Mosaic Services, a support network for at-risk students in the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District that partners with families to meet their academic, social and financial needs. Sticker Sales Help Mosaic Services

Residents can purchase "I heart Maplewood" stickers at Foundation Grounds Coffee House to support the cause.

It was about one year ago when Pedro Abbate saw a faded "I heart Maplewood" sticker on the side of a downtown Maplewood shop, and crafted an idea to help local charities.  He decided he could sell similar stickers to build a sense of community in the city while donating all proceeds directly to those who need some help. Pedro Abbate and Laura Macaluso, the married co-owners of Foundation Grounds Coffee House, unveiled the fundraiser in their shop on Oct. 1. While they plan to choose different charities each month, all of October's sales will directly benefit Mosaic Services, a program that supports low-income and at-risk children in the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District.
