The second venture from the Katie's Pizzeria owner will also have pastas and sauces made in-house, Sauce Magazine reports.
Katie Lee, and her business partner and fiance Ted Collier, are hard at work on their new space in Rock Hill at 9568 Manchester Rd. Katie's Pizza and Pasta was funded with the help of a successful Kickstarter effort, and backers won't have to wait long to enjoy the fruits of their contributions--the pair is hoping to open in July, Sauce Magazine reports. The new space will include artisan cooking elements such as a wood-burning oven and living wall of herbs, according to Sauce. Several foods--from the pastas to sauce and cheeses--will be produced in-house, they report. Are you excited to try Lee's new dishes? Tell us in the comments. Backers helped the soon-to-open Maplewood donut shop raise $10,000 toward new kitchen equipment. With one challenge out of the way, now the shop's owners can focus on a sweet 'craft donut and beer tasting' event next week.
Corey Smale and his partners, Tyler Fenwick and Sweet Will, are getting ready to offer Maplewood residents "classic" flavored donuts in addition to a few of their own "creations" at their new shop, Strange Donuts, on Sutton Avenue. Thursday the trio successfully reached the goal of their $10,000 Kickstarter campaign toward the purchase of kitchen equipment, including a fryer and hood, oven, proofing box, donut cutter, mixer and glazing tables. The fundraising effort took just over two weeks. Three of the backers pledged more than $500, and will be able to collaborate with chef Sweet Will on a donut to be featured in the shop. Prior to their May opening, the business partners are hard at work introducing themselves to the community--and …

There are three weeks left to contribute to the soon-to-open Sutton Avenue shop's crowdsourced fundraiser.

The shop is slated to open in May, Feast Magazine reports. Smale recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $10,000 toward the purchase of kitchen equipment, including a fryer and hood, oven, proofing box, donut cutter, mixer and glazing tables. "We thought, 'How cool would it be to have the people who want these doughnuts help make them, literally,'" Smale told RFT's Gut Check. Kickstarter supporters helped Katie Lee raise more than $40,000 to open a new artisan pizza and pasta spot in Rock Hill.
There's still a day left for Katie’s Pizzeria fans to contribute to owner Katie Lee's Kickstarter to open a new restaurant. And it's no surprise--Katie’s Pizzeria has won Best Pizza from Sauce Magazine four out of its five years in business. Lee launched the Kickstarter campaign in late January in hopes of opening Katie's Pizza and Pasta. In exchange for their financial support, Lee is offering perks from a complimentary drink to a pizza designed and named in the backer's honor. (Lee even hosted a cocktail party for backers to sample appetizers for the new restaurant this past weekend.) Read previous …

The shop is planning to move into the space recently vacated by Pixies Hair Design on Sutton Boulevard.
A shop serving traditional doughnuts, as well as more imaginative creations now found in shops on the coasts, is seeking a May opening in downtown Maplewood. Corey Smale, one of the partners in a bakery planning to move into the space recently vacated by Pixies Hair Design on Sutton Boulevard, said he grew up going to shops like World’s Fair Doughnuts, John Donut and Donut Drive-In. The new Maplewood shop will be called Strange Donuts. “We love the classics, but also, what’s been done with cupcakes is being done with doughnuts in other cities,” Smale said. “Voodoo Doughnuts, in Portland, Oregon, has national recognition. They were the first to add bacon to a doughnut. In St. Louis we haven’t seen it done.” One of the partners in the …
