Ordinance Will Bring New Parking Rules to Sutton Loop Lot

As of March 14 a lot adjacent to the Sutton Bus Loop will become 2-hour parking only.

Maplewood City Council gave final approval on an ordinance change to make parking for the Sutton Bus Loop limited to two hours at last night's council meeting. Prior to approval, the Maplewood Code of Ordinances had no rules in place for a lot near the loop, which is just south of Manchester Road at Hazel and Sutton Avenues.  The change will go into effect on March 14, and motorists will have to abide by the following rules: The lot is new and requires similar standards and regulations to other lots across Maplewood, City Manager Marty Corcoran said. Residents Ask Council to Reconsider Expanded MRH Parking Lot

Maplewood City Council gave preliminary approval to rezone two residential properties owned by the school district.

Four Maplewood residents shared their concerns about the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District's plan to bulldoze homes at 2544 and 2548 Gerhard Avenue and construct a large parking lot during a Maplewood City Council meeting on Tuesday night. City council unanimously gave first round approval to rezone the properties from residential to public activity. The properties must be rezoned before the district can pave a parking lot. City council has previously rezoned district-owned properties at 2552 and 2554 Gerhard Avenue and 2549, 2551, 2553, 2554, 2556, 2562 and 2564 Florent Avenue for the parking lot. "The question is: When is enough enough?" asked resident Myles McCabe, who lives on nearby Oakland Avenue. "How many houses are they …

Residents Object to Rezoning Gerhard Avenue Lots for MRH Parking

The Maplewood Planning and Zoning Commission also voted to rezone roughly 10 acres of land near the Sunnen Products Company.

Some neighbors to the north of Maplewood Richmond Heights High School are concerned that the school district is gobbling up their neighborhood, “like an octopus,” as one resident said during a Maplewood Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on Monday night. The district plans to raze multiple homes to make room for a parking lot while replacing the school's current parking lot with a courtyard and other renovations. The district owns nine lots north of the high school that have already been rezoned by the city. The commission met Monday to discuss the rezoning of two more district-owned lots at 2544 and 2548 Gerhard Avenue. Motions to rezone both lots passed unanimously, though commission member Tom Bakersmith cast his vote “with a heavy …

A group of MRH parents have a Walking School Bus set up to encourage walking to school. MRH students living within a 1 mile radius of the school are required to walk or ride their bikes to school or drive unless they have to cross a major intersection. The only parking lot MRH high school has barely has enough spaces to house the cars of the faculty/staff (some of whom walk to work), so …   more ›
