2 Maplewood Ribbon-Cuttings on Tuesday

Abbie Takes Pictures and Pie Oh My! business-owners cut the ribbon.

Abbie Rudolph was an elementary teacher before a friend asked her to take pictures at her wedding five years ago. That got her started, and now Rudolph has been a full-time photographer for four years. She's now Abbie Takes Pictures. She moved into her space in Maplewood in May. She's at 7370 Manchester Road, Suite 205. Rudolph said she travels to cover weddings, and shoots children and families too. Next year she plans to start marketing a stationary line of invitations, thank you notes and place cards. See more photos from her ribbon-cutting on Maplewood-Brentwood Facebook. Jane Callahan has been baking pies from scratch, with only fresh ingredients, commercially in St. Louis for several years, but this is her first location where she …

Pie Oh My! Opens Today

Baked-from-scratch pies will be available in tart-sized portions. Full size pies can be ordered ahead of time.

Fresh baked pies from Jane Callahan, owner of Pie Oh My! have been available in St. Louis at Local Harvest, Baumann’s, Kaldi’s and Spencer’s Grill in Kirkwood. Beginning today Callahan will also sell from her own location, at 2719 Sutton Boulevard in Maplewood. She’ll open her doors at 11 a.m. All her pies are made from fresh, seasonal ingredients, such as the box of peaches sitting in her kitchen on Tuesday. Callahan said she’s currently baking coconut cream, banana cream, pear-blueberry and peach-blueberry. She said she’s had a good reaction from an espresso-pecan-chocolate, so she’ll be trying that one. As she’s been getting ready neighbors have peeked in to say hi, and some have had suggestions. “The guys upstairs (The Core Group) are …

New Pie Bakery Opening Soon on Sutton in Maplewood

A new pie shop named Pie Oh My! gained preliminary approval from Maplewood City Council on Tuesday evening.

An article in June about Jane Callahan opening Pie Oh My!, a fresh-baked pie shop in Maplewood, gained attention locally, but Callahan wasn't ready to announce the shop's location yet. But now we know the bakery is planning to open at 2719 Sutton Boulevard at the corner of Marietta Avenue. Callahan gained preliminary approval from Maplewood City Council during a meeting on Tuesday night. The site was previously occupied by Archangels Books. Callahan wasn't at the meeting. When contacted previously, she wouldn't name an opening date, but the build-out started recently, and a public hearing is scheduled for Sept. 11. The store's hours are expected to be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to her conditional use permit. The store will have seating …

Maplewood City Council to Hear Public Comments on QuikTrip

The city council will hear what the public has to say, then take the first vote on rezoning the NW corner of Manchester and Big Bend.

The Maplewood City Council, tonight at 7:30 at Maplewood City Hall, will listen to public comments on rezoning the northwest corner of Manchester Road and Big Bend Boulevard, which if passed, would allow QuikTrip to move there from its present location. The rules for public comment state that anyone wanting to speak will need to fill out a public comment card and turn it in to the city clerk. Each speaker is limited to three minutes. A speaker can simply indicate support for a prior speaker's position instead of repeating a point. The planning and zoning commission OK'd the move on July 3. See Patch articles related to the potential QuikTrip relocation: The council will also vote on a request for a full liquor license for Tiffany's …

I would live a real, independent bookstore (new or used). Also, since we are such a foodie hotspot, a kitchen accessories shop might do well.   more ›

Maplewood Businesses in the News: Pie Oh My! and Food Trucks

Maplewood loves food news, and it seems St. Louis loves food news from Maplewood.

Two Maplewood food-related topics have grabbed attention lately: food trucks and pies. Everyone seems to like fresh-baked pies – can't say the same for food trucks. Patch reported that Jane Callahan is moving her pie bakery to Sutton Boulevard in Pie Bakery Coming Soon to Maplewood: Nothing Canned, Nothing Frozen. St. Louis food magazine, Sauce, reported on Pie Oh My! moving to Maplewood: "Callahan recently signed the lease on a space in Maplewood. And while she declined to give the exact address, she did note that it was on Sutton Avenue, adding that she looked at spaces throughout the central corridor, ultimately choosing Maplewood because it was a 'supportive, inviting business community.'" Read the article in Sauce. Patch updated the …

Pie Bakery Coming Soon to Maplewood: Nothing Canned, Nothing Frozen

Pie Oh My! is moving into a space on Sutton Boulevard. What's baking depends on what's in season.

If things go according to plan, by early fall the smell of fresh-baked pies will be floating out of a shop on Sutton Boulevard in Maplewood. Pie Oh My!, a locally owned bakery that specializes in scratch-made pies will be baking and selling out of the Maplewood location. Jane Callahan is Pie Oh My, and recently has been baking in a shared kitchen at the St. Patrick Center's BEGIN New Venture Center in St. Louis. She said it’s time to take the next big step. “I wanted to see what the demand was for my product,” she said. “I wanted to be cautious about it.
