Do you think mid-County could use some simplifying? St. Louis Magazine contributor Thomas Crone proposes a new concept. "Here’s a starter: Brentwood, Richmond Heights and Maplewood should get the ball rolling by forming a new, mid-County super town," he writes. "In this new environment, Maplewood would be the funky corner of this new municipality, the place to go for a drink or a meal, with the super-walkable Manchester providing all kind of options between Southwest and Big Bend." Maplewood's upstairs alley on Sutton Boulevard is featured, along with photos of a local photographer.
Maplewood's own Saratoga Lanes was featured in the American Airlines magazine, American Way in April. St. Louis photographer Jennifer Silverberg sets the feel of the layout with black and white photographs. One bolt from Saturday's storm sent the chimney to the parking lot.
As folks were taking shelter from the storm on Saturday afternoon in Maplewood establishments like Saratoga Lanes, The Wood and Maya Cafe, a crack of lightning hit the chimney on the corner of Saratoga Lanes, and sent it to the parking lot below. Part of the chimney hit a balcony and broke out some of the railing. The rest spread across an open parking spot between two cars, as if that's what it had in mind. Julie Moeckel, from Brentwood, was at Saratoga Lanes when it happened. "Rather scary moment, the sound of the bricks hitting the roof and then balcony before landing in the parking lot was incredibly loud," Moeckel's father, Andy, told Patch in an email.
