Lawsuit Targets St. Louis YMCA for Sex Abuse During 1980s Swim Lessons

The abuse took place during swim lessons at Mid-County YMCA in Brentwood in 1986 or 1987, according to the lawsuit.

A lawsuit filed against the YMCA of Greater St. Louis alleges an unidentified swim instructor sexually abused two young boys in 1986 or 1987 during lessons at the Mid-County branch in Brentwood. The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) announced the lawsuit Wednesday. According to the suit, the two plaintiffs, referred to as John Doe A and John Doe B, do not remember the instructor’s name. They did not know if the instructor worked for the YMCA or acted as a volunteer. The abuse occurred almost every lesson, which occurred weekly for about a year, according to the suit. The lawsuit states the plaintiffs took semi-private swim lessons as boys, and they were the only two taking part in the lessons with the instructor. …

The abuse is reported to have occurred at the YMCA, in Brentwood, in 1986 or 1987. I read that as well, and that article also states that the boys were unsure if the instructor worked for the YMCA, or was merely a volunteer. I just find it curious that neither of the two boys could remember the name of an instructor that supposedly abused them on a "weekly basis" for "about a year" according to the lawsuit filed. That the YMCA would release a statement claiming that they only …   more ›

Prosecutor: Ex-Teacher Charged with Rape Didn't Expect Arrest

The suspect, Donald Ingerson, worked as a high school teacher at five or six school districts in St. Louis County.

A former St. Louis County high school teacher suspected of raping a student in the mid-1970s apparently approached police because he thought he could not be charged in the case, Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCullough said. Donald Ingerson, 67, is charged with one count of rape and one count of second-degree statutory sodomy. He taught at five or six school districts in St. Louis County beginning in the 1960s and continuing into the 1990s, McCullough said Tuesday during a news conference at the Buzz Westfall Justice Center in Clayton. McCullough declined to identify the districts, though he said districts where the suspect worked have been notified and asked to contact police should additional victims come forward. It does not appear that …
