Snow Days May Mean Longer School Years for Brentwood, MRH Students

Brentwood School District's academic calendar has shifted because of the snow. MRH School District might turn a professional development day for teachers into a makeup day for students.

Repeated school cancellations due to extreme weather can cause students to attend makeup days. Brentwood School District, however, has a plan in place to offset a certain number of cancellations. "The district has built seven days into the end of the academic calendar for inclement weather makeup days," said Barb Ruhl, assistant to the superintendent. "If there is a situation that exceeds that seven-day mark, then currently the plan is to add on to those days." With two snow days thus far, the last day for students has been moved from May 24 to May 26, with May 25 set as a records day for teachers. Students must complete 174 school days in an academic school year, as mandated by the Missouri Department of Secondary and Elementary Education…
