A Brentwood man struck a 73-year-old woman in the head on Sept. 12, according to a Brentwood Police report. Jeffrey B. Soebbing, 49, of the 2600 block of Porter Avenue, was charged Friday in St. Louis County Circuit Court with third-degree elder abuse. A dispute over pay and holiday time for workers at Auto Plaza Ford sparked members of a machinist union to picket on the sidewalk outside. Automative technicians and service writers—all members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers—have been picketing the service department for more than seven weeks because they're unhappy with the contract offered by owner Nadir Djvaherian. They're striking against this location only. Djvaherian said he's made four proposals to the workers, but each one was rejected. The most recent offer was made in the mid-December.
