Seven Eagles made either first or second-team All-Conference.
Brentwood baseball went 15-8 before losing to South Callaway in Sectionals. Brentwood defeated Valley Park 7-3 to win the district championship. Seven Eagles were selected by the conference coaches to either first or second-team All-Conference in the SCAA. The players are listed below, along with comments from Brentwood head coach Mike Imergoot. First Team All-Conference We focus on the senior who's the most outstanding player in the conference. Kevin by far was the senior with the best overall record in terms of hitting and pitching. I recommended him and we all voted and he was selected overwhelmingly. He's the best senior in the conference by far. Sophomore with a .594 batting average – second in the area. And Tate Matheny is graduating…

The Eagles are off to a hot start this season.
The Brentwood wrestling team has been on a roll this season. The Eagles are 4-1 in dual meets this season, including a clean sweep in a four-team event against Barat Academy, Lift for Life Academy and MRH earlier this month. Three Brentwood wrestlers have perfect records this season, led by junior Mykell Hudspeth (5-0 in the 145-pound weight class); senior Tyler Jones (also 5-0 in the 170-pound class), and freshman Jann McClure (5-0 at 106/113 pounds). Another freshman, Austin Koster, has been impressive at the 182-pound weight class. He lost his first high school match back in November, but has won every match since, including pin victories in three of those matches. Junior David Rivera, senior Jake Caragher and sophomore Lucas Jones are …

Five players were recognized for their contributions during the football season.
The big news in local high school sports came early Friday afternoon when the Associated Press All-State Football Teams were announced, after voting had concluded among a panel of statewide sportswriters and sportscasters. Locally, five players, four from Maplewood Richmond Heights and one from Brentwood, were named to all-state football list. In Class 2, MRH juniors Wes Williams (linebacker) and Karon Thomas (defensive back) were selected to the First-Team squad, while teammates junior Kahlid Hagens (quarterback) and senior Kashon Hagens (wide receiver) and Brentwood senior Tyler Jones (linebacker) were named to the Second-Team unit. Williams, one of the most productive linebackers in the area this past season, led the Devils (11-3) with …

The Eagles advance to the next round of the postseason after grabbing a late win against Carnahan on Wednesday night.
The game clock read 2:48 in the fourth quarter when Brentwood kicker Jake Caragher stood at the 17-yard line, waiting for the ball to be snapped. Caragher, a senior, kept telling himself that this kick was no different than an extra point. Never mind that Brentwood and Carnahan were tied 14-14 with the season on the line. Finally, the snap came, and the hold was perfect. Caragher powered the ball through the uprights, prompting the home Brentwood crowd to erupt in cheers. The 27-yard field goal would prove to be the deciding score in a game that featured an explosive first half but quiet second one. "I don't even know what to say right now," said a smiling Caragher after the game. "This is amazing. There is no other feeling." Have you '…

Junior Rekardo Owens’ three second-half touchdown runs spark Eagles to 41-19 win over Panthers.
TOWN AND COUNTRY — Walking around the field at Principia High School’s John Jamerson Stadium before Saturday’s Class 2 District 3 championship football game, Brentwood head coach Keith Herring was a little concerned that his players weren’t really as ready to play as they let on. Herring told his assistant coaches that he hoped his Eagles would be loose for the biggest game of the year, but with just minutes to go before the opening kickoff, the head coach thought the team was too loose. “It was bothering me a lot,” Herring said. “But I thought, once we get going, the kids will ratchet up the intensity and we’ll be fine.” It didn’t work out that way at all, as Brentwood barely survived a shaky first half, and trailed the host Prin Panthers…

Friday night's win guarantees a playoff spot for the Brentwood Eagles.
A strong defensive performance from Brentwood shut out district foe Grandview on Friday night, as the home Eagles won 35-0. The win guarantees Brentwood (5-3) a spot in the state playoffs. Grandview's loss (1-7) knocked them out. (For a full photo gallery, visit our Brentwood Eagles Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BrentwoodEagles) After an early rush for a score from Brentwood senior Tyler Jones, Grandview responded by promptly marching down the field. Brentwood stopped Grandview on a 4th-and-5 play, but Brentwood was flagged for roughing the passer. Brentwood senior Danny Lynch spoiled the extended drive when he snagged an interception inside Brentwood's 20-yard line and returned it for a score, giving Brentwood a 14-0 lead in the first…

Brentwood aims to rebound when it plays North Callaway next week.
Lutheran South was once a team that Brentwood could easily beat, but on Friday night, in front of Brentwood's homecoming crowd, this Lancers team had a different plan. The Eagle’s three-game winning streak came to an abrupt end after they lost to the Lancers 8-46. “They’re a good team, but we didn’t play up to our potential and just had a terrible night on defense,” Brentwood coach Keith Herring said. “Things didn’t happen for us. What more do I say?” (More photos are available on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/BrentwoodEagles) One stat is enough: Brentwood was stopped on nine of 10 possessions, while Lutheran South scored touchdowns on seven of 10 possessions. Herring said he thought they could give them a game, and the Eagles …

The Eagles score only one touchdown in their homecoming game against Lutheran South.
Brentwood’s three-game winning streak hit a brick wall at homecoming on Friday night. The Eagles (3-3) were humbled by Lutheran South (2-4) by a score of 8-46. (A huge photo gallery from the game is available on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/BrentwoodEagles) Seniors Tyler Jones and Danny Lynch led on rushing with 46 and 37 yards respectively. Junior Rekardo Owens followed with 27. On the Lancers side, senior Tuskani Figaro had 100 yards rushing before halftime, when the Lancers led the Eagles 33-0. He finished with 139 yards rushing and 60 yards receiving. He ran in three of the Lutheran South touchdowns. The Eagles’ only score came in the third quarter on a 12-yard slanting pass from junior quarterback Jordan Groth to junior …

The Eagles' win in Cuba is the third consecutive victory.
The Brentwood Eagles football team has won its third consecutive game. On Friday night, the Eagles grabbed its third win of the season in a game against Cuba, MO (0-5). The final score was 33-14. (Eagles fans — have a photo from the game? Share it with other Eagles fans on Patch!) "Danny Lynch really stepped it up," said Brentwood coach Keith Herring in a phone interview with Patch. Lynch, a senior, grabbed three touchdowns in the game. Seniors Jake Caragher and Tyler Jones also contributed one score each. Herring said the Eagles had a strong rushing attack early, then threw in some screens and play-action passes to mix the offense up. And while the offense put up big numbers, Herring said the team had some penalties and other mistakes. "…
