Ponciroli's pesto sauce makes the whole school smell good when he's cooking for the fish fry.
The St. Mary Magdalen Church fish fry in Brentwood, A.K.A. the God's Cod recently won the Fish Fry Friday 2013 poll. Patch blogger Aimee Granneman recommends the Magalen fry as a cure for cabin fever, and The Fish Friday Review gave it a 5 out of 5. Charlie Ponciroli's green beans with his pesto sauce is a favorite side with the cod, shrimp or salmon. Watch to see what goes into these amazing beans. By the way, this Friday is your last chance of this year to try this great fish fry. More fish fry news in Patch:

A website devoted to fish fries gives St. Mary Magdalen's fry thumbs up.
St. Mary Magdalen Church's God's Cod fish fry, is getting great press this year. Two fish fry fans are going to two a week this Lenten season and reviewing their experiences on their website, Fish Fryday Review. On March 1 they went to the Mary Magdalen fish fry and had nothing but good to say about it. Great people, Great food, and a well-thought out fish fry just about sums up my experience at St. Mary Magdalen’s Fish Fry in Brentwood. The the full review on the Fish Fryday Review. A Patch blogger and Brentwood resident, Aimee Granneman, also reviewed the God's…

Nathan Barger and Aaron Terry, both 34, one day last Lenten season decided to go to a fish fry after work, and ended up at Immaculate Conception in Maplewood. “We liked it so much we decided to do it very week,” Barger said. Growing up, Barger went the fry every year at St. Simon the Apostle, in South County. Terry had never been to one. He said they were intrigued by the differences, and started a website, fishfryday.org, to post their reviews of each visit. They have a goal to hit two every Friday. Six are reviewed on the site so far this year. They had business cards made, calling themselves 'Men of Cod.' This is what Barger had to say about the dessert table at Immaculate Conception: The dessert table looked inviting, and the lovely …

If your Catholic church or other group is operating one this year, here's how you can let us know.
We're eager to get the word out to our readers about where they can find fish frys this Lenten season. If your Catholic church or other group is operating one this year, please fill out this form with the details. We'll compile the list of frys that we get and make sure that information is available to our readers throughout the season. An Associated Press article published in USA Today called fish frys "a timeworn Catholic tradition that provides a safe haven from divides that have long roiled the U.S. church, a place where traditionalist Catholics, progressive Catholics and everyone in between can sit peacefully at the same plastic tablecloth." If you're looking at this on a mobile device, please come back and visit when you're at a …

Chocolate? Facebook? What are you giving up for this religious time?
If you've logged on to Patch lately, you might have noticed our interactive map of fish frys. It's our way to help anyone giving up meat for Lent find a place for a tasty meal and to support communities. But it got us thinking: What besides meat are you giving up for Lent? And how is it going? It's tough going without something you are used to. If you are sacrificing a favorite food or activity for this period of religious observance, tell us about it. We'd love to know. Submit your responses in the comments below, or email your local Patch editor.
