The rivalry game was pushed up to 5:30 to hopefully avoid rain from Hurricane Isaac, but thunder delayed it, and everybody got wet anyway.
Neither Maplewood Richmond Heights nor Brentwood were happy following Friday’s matchup at Brentwood, but MRH was happier. They won. “Anytime you can win a football game 33-2, and our guys feel as if they lost, that’s a good thing, because they know what we’re capable of, they have yet to realize it,” MRH head coach Rich Nixon said. Rain from the remains of Hurricane Isaac made it just wet enough encourage three fumbles for each team, an errant MRH punt, and the ball to slip through MRH quarterback Kahlid Hagens’ hands to give Brentwood a safety. Brentwood was in scoring position three times but was stopped on every opportunity. “I thought we’d fight a little harder. I just didn’t see this many gunshots to the foot,” Bentwood head coach …
St. Louis County emergency responders met Thursday morning at the command center of Metro West Fire Protection District in Wildwood to collectively prepare for incoming storm Isaac. They fear people will plunge into flood waters.
Somewhere between 3 to 5 inches of rainfall is expected to move slowly over St. Louis between Friday and Saturday, which is less first predicted. Once St. Louis County emergency responders heard from the National Weather Service expert, Jim Kramper, on Thursday morning that Tropical Depression Isaac may not unleash as much danger to St. Louis, they immediately turned their preparations to swift water rescue planning. A countywide preparation session was hosted at Wildwood-based Metro West Fire Protection District's command center. Michael Thiemann, coordinator of Metro West's Emergency Management, shared the following public safety tips about flashing floods from the American Red Cross: Metro West paramedic Lt. Scott Hulsey demonstrated on…

Brentwood's public works and fire departments are ready for whatever rain may come this weekend.
As the remnants of Hurricane Isaac passes over St. Louis, Brentwood’s director of Public Works, Jim Nahmensen, said he doesn’t expect major flooding. “The Meramec is empty, the Mississippi is empty, the Missouri River, they’re all empty right now so they could use some good run-off,” he said. “If it keeps up like this, and we get a couple downpours, I think we’ll be fine.” He said it was different in 2008, when flooding occurred, because the ground was already saturated, then five inches of rain fell in three hours. He said there might be flash-flooding on Manchester Road and Russell Avenue, where it usually does in a heavy rain. “The staff is ready, even though it’s a holiday weekend,” he said. “And I’ll probably spend most of my weekend …

Metropolitan Sewer District officials say preparation now and taking simple steps when heavy rains come can make a difference.
The Metropolitan Sewer District issued the following advisory ahead of what could amount to several inches of rain this weekend as the remnants of Hurricane Isaac arrive in the St. Louis region: FLOODING: Anyone who lives adjacent to or near a waterway – no matter how small the waterway is during dry weather – lives in a floodplain or drainage way. During high intensity rainfalls (a large amount of rain falling in a short period of time), creeks, streams, rivers, and other waterways can quickly become a torrent of rushing water, possibly causing extensive flash flooding, and putting property and human safety at risk. If you live near such a waterway or live in a low area to which rainwater normally flows, pay close attention to weather …
